about us
Zoot Suit is a jazz band that can cater
for every occasion and please a wide diversity of tastes and age groups. We are
able to bring you a cross section of music from Louis Armstrong, Louis
Jordan and Louis Prima, the big band era and a selection of Jump-swing tunes
for dancing. We also perform our own interpretations of danceable
favorites.
Not only do we have flexibility in
terms of jazz styles but are equally comfortable playing acoustically,
off stage. This ability to get down among the crowd with the whole band to
entertain makes us distinctly unique and will help make your next function a
memorable one.
We can structure the dynamic of the band
during your special event in terms of musical format to suit your needs.
For example, Zoot Suit can begin with a roving acoustic style set or solo
piano, creating the atmosphere that you desire and proceed later to a
full stage presentation.
For more details please call Ormé.
The name 'Zoot Suit' commonly refers to a
style of clothing worn in the 40's by some of America's youth which
subsequently turned into a form of rebellion. History was made in 1943 on
the streets of Los Angeles when 'Zoot Suiters' and sailors clashed, hence
the Zoot Suit Riots. Our take on the term relates to when 'Zoot' referred to
the 1930's urban jazz culture and meant something worn or performed in an
extravagant style. We like to think it evokes a feeling of musicians being
entertaining and having a good time with an audience.
We look forward to providing
entertainment for your special event or function in the future.
